What Jane will work for on Council.

I will push for stronger affordable housing requirements in new developments and for more family-sized units and accessible homes for seniors. I’m committed to sustainable development and ensuring residents are informed and meaningfully consulted before projects are approved. New communities must include space for childcare, clinics, cafés and other small businesses, so people can work and access what they need closer to home.

For the past 15 years, I’ve been a Nature Ambassador with the Lower Coquitlam River Nature Association. Protecting our parks and connecting people with nature are important priorities for me. I will push Council to protect our tree canopy, expand nature-connectedness programs, strengthen conservation efforts, and acquire more land for parks.

I promise to vote to protect our employment lands so we can keep trades, manufacturing, logistics, and other good jobs in Coquitlam. This means more people can work closer to where they live instead of commuting out of the city every day, which also helps support our small businesses and ease traffic congestion.

Many seniors are struggling, and our community has yet to reach its peak senior population. I will advocate for more benches, accessible spaces, and expansion of activities that reduce social isolation. My votes will be guided by seniors’ advocates. Improving access to seniors’ housing, services and support so older adults can age with dignity and stay connected to their community is vital to maintaining a healthy community.

A healthy community looks after its first responders and most vulnerable community members. We need to secure more resources for the Mobile Integrated Crisis Response team, which pairs a specialized police officer with a Fraser Health mental-health professional to respond to acute mental health crises. We also need to find creative solutions to the need for more treatment spaces for those in need.
